I want to change the line spacing when I use a hard return(hit the enter button)

Hello, I am helping manage a blog and my client just purchased the upgrade to customize fonts, theme, etc...

I have a fairly good grasp on coding (intermediate C# and Java). I read the tutorial about changing the paragraph spacing, but it doesn't seem to apply to the hard return. Currently the hard return results in what looks like a double space. I chose the Custom Design option under the Appearance setting in Dashboard. This took me to the home page where a slide out window explained a bit about CSS and said I could put my changes there. I put the code "p { line-height: 1;}" there, but it didn't change anything. Is this the correct spot for the code? I read in some of the advanced tutorial I can use a text editor to write code and place the file in, what I assume might be the index page, with the html docs. That seemed a little overkill for what little I need to do at the moment. I wasn't able to find the location to place the file so I couldn't try it, however.

The blog I need help with is mysteryandintriguefest.wordpress.com.

  2. Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

  3. Oh No! I'm sorry. I just saw this was in the CSS Forum and I apologize. :(

No problem! You actually solved my problem inadvertently. I totally forgot about holding shift+enter to single space between lines. I was going a little overboard trying to use a CSS for my issue.

  5. Whew! I was embarrassed and I admit that I have made this mistake more that once.
