I want to file a complaint against a blogger who used racial slur.

    I want to file a complaint against a blogger named "http://priyankanandy.com/" who used a banned racial slur 'Chinky" in the heading of her article "Boxing Days: Indian’s ‘Chinky’ Route to Olympic Glory". We as the minority oriental people has to face such derogatory remarks and slurs each day of our life and it is a very sensitive topic for us.
    Priyanka didn't mean to abuse us deliberately I suppose but when we asked her to edit her title because of it's derogatory meaning, she became extremely rude to each one of us. her using the 'Chinky' word borderlines with cheap sensationalism at the cost of our emotions.
    I would kindly request you to ask Priyanka Nandy to remove the derogatory word from the heading if her article and if possible warn her against using it.

    Causing emotional cost is not a bannable offence. It's clear from her article that the word was used allusively, not literally.

    This is an issue for Staff. It's not for us Volunteers and I already flagged this thread for Staff attention when I first provided the comment above.

    We are the minority oriental people of India who comes from the North-East region of India. We have to face such derogatory remarks and slurs each day of our life and it is a very sensitive topic for all of us.

    Indian Ministry of Home Affairs recognized use of the term "chinki/ chinky" to refer to a member of the Scheduled Tribes (especially in the North-East) as a criminal offense under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act with a penalty of up to five years in jail.
    As per Indian Law, racial discrimination is dealt with section 153 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Sections 153B and 505 (2) of IPC as well. Article 19 of our constitution does give rights to its citizens for freedom of expression and speech, but it also has its own restrictions and moreover its a moral responsibility and moral obligation on cistizen's part to use it to the best, keeping in view the feelings of others and at the same time the existence of peace and tranquility of the country.

    I don't know why you posted that here. We are Volunteers. There is no direct racial slur in what you point to. Use the link I previously posted to file a complaint with Staff please > http://en.wordpress.com/abuse/ and know that the Staff you deal with in the complaint will not be reading this forum thread.

    @kenri1: Did you bother to read Priyanka's post? She's using the term for the very reason of emphasizing that Mary Kom would be viewed by some Indians in a derogatory way if she weren't distinguished in the Olympic Games.

    @justpi.
    I did of course.
    I don't know how serious it is in other country but it is a serious offence in India. Very recently it was made a criminal offence against anyone who uses it to refer a person from the North-East of India and she did exactly that. This apart, it is a very sensitive topic for us. If she has to celebrate Mary Kom's win in the Olympics as fellow Indian, she could have used another term or heading for it. She is a creative writer, she didn't have to use a tabboo word to draw people to her article.
    It is a serious matter for us. Our people are not as educated and internet savvy so we don't get to see many voicing their feelings and opinions online.
    It is the cumulative effort of us that the law made it an illegal word very recently. After all this effort, a smart writer comes along and uses the word even maybe in good intention, it is going to hurt us obviously.

    I hope you try to understand it.
    But alas, like @raincoaster said, people can take liberty and write what they want to using any word/s whether it hurt people's sentiments or not. Sadly.

    The way I see this is you have this backwards. justpi and raicoaster have th same take on tht pieces of writing as I do.

    You attemtpted to bully the writer into changing her title and she said no. Apparently you don't t have the grace it takes to accept no as an answer.

    @timethief, you got me wrong. I am only replying to justpi. I didn't even know where to file a complaint until you told me. I came here from the "Support &Forums" given below. Dind't know any better and now already got branded as a bully. Sigh! So I can't I even reply to another volunteer here? So since I am not good with wordpress, what do I do? Stop replying here...? How do I close the topic?
