I Want to purchase my domain

  1. but i am wondering if you guys offer hosting? because i already have an account with go daddy but i would have to start my blog all over again through them first and i really would not like to do that.

The blog I need help with is followmyaddiction.wordpress.com.

  2. Please read this comparion very carefully so you understand the difference ie. limitations on all free hosted WordPress.com blogs http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ No upgrade you purchase change anything stated there.

If you have already purchased a domain elsewhere and you would like to use your domain to map to from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What's important during that stage is to be patient.

  3. Just in case you are confused this is a free hosted WordPress.com blog http://followmyaddiction.wordpress.com/

If you do not already own a domain name as you now have that underlying .wordpress.com blog you can proceed to purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What's important during that stage is to be patient.

  4. timethief, thanks for your answer.
i have a doubt: if i pay $18 here at WP for my custom domain, i would be able to add ads?

how would readers of my old blog reach my new one? i mean, can i transfer, so to speak, my old posts to my new blog address?

the blog i need help with is http://www.peruenrourte.wordpress.com

  5. i have a doubt: if i pay $18 here at WP for my custom domain, i would be able to add ads?

Absolutely not. Purchasing an upgrade does not change anything stated here at all > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If that's your thing then hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up a WordPress.org install. http://wordpress.org/

  6. how would readers of my old blog reach my new one? i mean, can i transfer, so to speak, my old posts to my new blog address?

The reason we buy domain mapping is so when the old URLs are clicked anywhere on the internet visitors are seamlessly redirected to the same content under the domain URLs. Read more here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/04/02/do-i-need-a-domain/

  7. thank you so much, timethief.

If i hire a web host, do i still need to pay for a web server?

  8. When you hire a web host that is what are paying for ie. you are paying them to host a WordPress.org install on their servers.

  9. thank you again, timethief.

Someone told me that you can add widgets or apps so that let my free blog receive advertisement?

On the other hand, the steps to pass from a free blog to a custom blog would be to buy a domain and hire a web host? Is that all? Is there anything like a guideline how to do that process by myself?

  10. Someone told me that you can add widgets or apps so that let my free blog receive advertisement?

Someone is not telling you the correct information. Someone is also not awre that if you want to monetize an blog and are serious about making income from it your do not waste any time here. You hire a web host and you set up a WordPress.org install.

There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds http://www.wordads.co/ no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.

    http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

On free hosted WordPress.com blog we can use a contact form and/or a PayPal button for sale of only products or services created or provided by ourselves.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that changes any of that. If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising, affiliate links, paid or sponsored content you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org

  11. I really appreciate your help and time, timethief!!!

Wish me luck at starting my own custom blog!!!

  12. I repeat that if you want to monetize a blog you will not waste any time here at all. You will hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install. Best wishes with that.

  13. last but not least, please!

how much do you think one needs to hire a web host and set up a WP.org install?

  14. Each web host states exactly what they charge at the link I already posted for you http://wordpress.org/hosting/

The most common reason for moving from WordPress.com to WordPress.org is the desire to make money from advertizing and/or affiliate sales. In reality if your WordPress.com blog does not currently attract 1,000 – 1,500 unique visitors every day, and your traffic stats do not demonstrate a growth trend, then it’s unlikely that you will much more than covering web hosting costs.

For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements.

  15. thank you so much for your time and help, timethief. You are the best!!!

  16. You're welcome and best wishes for happy blogging.
