I would like to know if a widget is availible for my need.

  1. What I want to do on my blog is make it so people can list the name of the person they are looking for and separate them by individual state. Like this. California: Sam Spade
    Tom Sawyer
    ECT...
    Maryland: Sylvia Plath
    Huck Finn

The blog I need help with is rickyspracticeblog1.wordpress.com.

  2. The colon will be lost from the URL as that punctuation cannot appear in URLs. You can create sub-categories under States. You can create a hierarchical Categories structure that's at least 4 levels deep.

    Categories http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

  3. Let me see if I'm understanding you right. I should create a category for each state and the users can go into the category and put the name of the person they want to find or search it?

  4. Create categories for States.
    example
    Maryland
    and sub-categories under them
    example
    Maryland - Sylvia Plath

  5. Side note:
This may or may not be of interest. The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

  6. Will the user be able to do that, or will they have to give me the information and I create it.

  7. Let's be clear about this please. A blog is not a public noticeboard, a forum or a wiki. Visitors cannot do anything at all on the blog except comment. At this point only those you as the owner and Admin of the blog can create categories. You do have the ability to choose to invite others to become blog contributors and assign user roles to them.
