I would like two followers blocked, as they are both spamming my blog

  1. I would like to block two followers - [email redacted] and [email redacted], as they are both putting spam comments (some far east gift company) onto my blog. How do I do this?

The blog I need help with is alexanderramsay.wordpress.com.

Comment moderation might be the best way to go because you technically can not block a follower from a public blog:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

If they have a hosted WP.com blog, you can report them as spam:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/

You can always set the blog to private as well:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  3. IMO - comment moderation is the ONLY way to go - all sites I admin have moderation required - stops everything cold

  4. We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Everyone on the internet can view and follow any public blog. That is in fact what the public designation means and anyone anyone with internet access can follow your public blog's RSS Feed.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

You don't have to post any comment on your blog. Delete troll posts http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/how-to-starve-a-troll/
and mark only spam as spam. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/01/24/mark-only-spam-as-spam/

Spammers are becoming more inventive every day. Akismet is a learning engine. Set up comment moderation. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read "5 things every blogger should know about spam" on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

  5. Thanks everyone - that's exactly what I needed to know

  6. Best wishes with the blog and don't let any spammer rob you of your joy. Don't give your power away by investing emotionally in the crap they post. Mark spam as spam, delete troll post and blog on! :)
