If the post has not been previously published the answer is "yes".

Is there any way to not notify subscribers when a post is backdated? I want to fill in older entries without spamming my subscribers.

You can set the blog to private and then switch it back again to public.

Sorry to butt in on this with more questions, TT, but this is very interesting--do you mean even if I set the blog to private just for the minute it takes to publish a post, and then make it public right away, subscribers will not be notified???
(backdated or not, I mean...actually I didn't know it was possible to back date posts!) Sometimes I have wanted to make a very mundane, brief note but I didnt want subscribers to get spammed with a "gone fishing, back soon" type of post... this sounds like a great workaround... -
@ingridcc, that is correct. Notifications for the post published when your site is set to private will not go out to subscribers.

Thanks tsp!--wow, I learn something useful every time I drop in on the forums!
