After using google blog for a year I emptied my picasa albums not realizing I would delete all my photos on blog too...ugh....thought I'd try wordpress. I currently upload pics off my camera to windows live photo gallery--ultimately also put on smugmug.
1) If I upload pics to media library on wordpress do I leave them in there forever so they won't get deleted off wordpress blog?
2)Seems like I'm using so many steps to simply post pics on blog?? Am I missing something simple??

If you delete pictures from your media library they will no longer be available on your blog.
I process and compress my images on my computer, then simply upload to my blogs. (Photos I keep are on my hard-drive and backup.) Some pictures are on Flickr because I use a slideshow in a sidebar sometimes.

I have been here for 6 and 3/4 years and I still have lots of space for media. "You are currently using 77.6 MB out of 3.0 GB upload limit (3%)."
