Image from URL problems?

Since the media upload option has changed recently, when I try to upload images from URL, the image does not load. After pasting the URL, and clicking "Insert/Embed," all I get in my post-editor is a standard link, not an image. I have always relied on this function before, as it is easier to link via URL to images of book covers from my library's catalog than to take the extra steps of downloading the image to my computer and uploading it to my WordPress media library. Nothing about my images' URLs has changed, and I am still able to link to images via the catalog-generated URLs using other web platforms other than WordPress. This is a large problem as I currently upload most of my images via URL.

The blog I need help with is shorewoodlibraryteens.wordpress.com.

  2. Could you please link to a post where the insert-from-URL feature isn't working for you so we can investigate?

Could you also please try upgrading to Firefox 17, the current version?

    Thanks very much.

    Thanks-

I have updated my most recent post so that the first image is coming from a URL, rather than from my media library, and displaying as a link (the text that simply says "After" and is underlined): http://shorewoodlibraryteens.wordpress.com/2012/12/05/are-you-ready-for-the-apocalypse/

My browser is up to date as of today.

  4. Thanks for this.

An image URL always needs to end in the image file extension - i.e. jpg, gif, png, etc. Your link looks like this:

    http://syndetics.com/index.php?isbn=9781423146193/lc.jpg&client=milwp&type=rn12

Trim off the end so it looks like this:

    http://syndetics.com/index.php?isbn=9781423146193/lc.jpg

Just let me know if this doesn't work.

Previously (I've been using WordPress for about a year and a half), I did not have to trim the URL, it was enough that it contained the .jpg indicator somewhere in the URL.
I tried your suggestion of taking the extra bit at the end off of the URL, and am still encountering the same problem.
This is a brand new problem as of this week. Do I need to update something within my WordPress account?

Thanks for your help with this-

  6. Thanks, I see what you mean. I'll report this to our developers as it looks like a bug. I'll keep you posted - sorry for the inconvenience.

  8. electricia1 - your issue is a different one, and since you already posted a separate thread, that's where we'll provide assistance.

  9. shorewoodlibraryteens - this issue should now be fixed. Just let me know if you still have trouble with it. Thanks!
