Images disappeared from all posts on blog (but not sidebar)

Hello. I logged onto WordPress today to edit and schedule a post. I did not tinker with the images in the post. I scheduled it for this Saturday.

Then I changed my Twitter settings under Appearance > Widgets. After I had saved the new settings, I loaded the homepage of my blog to see the changes. What I discovered is that all of the images from my posts had disappeared. The sole image in the sidebar was still viewable.

I went into edit mode for my most recent published post with a picture. The picture icon was displayed as broken. I clicked the edit button and re-uploaded the picture from my computer to WordPress. Once I saved the changes to my post, the picture appeared on my homepage and the post. However, all other pictures for my blog are still missing.

My blog is relatively new so I can go through the few posts I have and re-upload all the pictures. But I want to avoid this problem in the future because I don't want to have to continue re-uploading pictures multiple times.

I searched for answers to this problem on both the forums and Google. I found a few older answers that were too complicated for me to understand (I'm a new blogger and a new WordPress user). I also noticed that people in the UK were having issues with their images on Monday/Tuesday evening. I'm in the USA though (and it's Wednesday).

Any ideas as to what caused all my images to disappear? Any ways to fix this moving forward?

FYI, my blog is at towardinfinity.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is towardinfinity.wordpress.com.

  2. Please tell us
    (1) What your operating system is?
    (2) how you are connecting to the internet and to wordpress.com (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) ?
    (3) which browser and version of it you are using? If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
    (4) Are these missing images ones you uploaded from your computer into WordPress.com servers?
    (5) If so, then are they appearing in your Media Library?
    (6) Or are these missing images hosted on third party sites?

  3. That is bizarre. The images appear to have been deleted. I can see the link is fine for http://towardinfinity.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/north-to-the-orient.jpg but there is no file there. But for some reason it's holding the place for the image as if it's there. I don't think it has anything to do with your scheduling a post; I think there's an issue with the image servers. I will flag this for staff, because I think they need to take a look.

  4. P.S. I am using Firefox 15.0.1 and I can see this image http://towardinfinity.wordpress.com/2012/09/10/the-house-of-paper-by-carlos-maria-dominguez/dominguez_final-indd/ in this post The House of Paper by Carlos Maria Dominguez, tr. by Nick Caistor By Mona | Published September 12, 2012

Yes. The image in The House of Paper post is the one that I re-uploaded after I noticed that all the images had disappeared. That image had also disappeared. After I deleted the icon for the broken picture link from the post, I re-uploaded the image and then inserted it into the post. Once I did that, the picture showed up. However, I did not re-upload/insert for the other posts because I wanted to make sure I understand what is going on so I can avoid this problem in the future.

Here are the answers to your questions:

    Operating System: Windows 7

Connection to Internet/Wordpress: Cable (My at-home Internet connection is via cable, though at the time this problem occurred, I was at a coffee shop, using their Wi-Fi network. Not sure if that's relevant.)

    Browser: Firefox 15.0.1

Yes, the missing images are all ones I uploaded from my computer into WordPress. The sidebar picture (under "Currently Reading") never disappeared. That photo was not uploaded from my computer. Instead, that one was identified via a website. I right-clicked on the image from the Goodreads website and copied the photo information/location into the Image widget.

Yes, all the images (except for the sidebar image, which I did not upload to WordPress) are appearing in my Media Library.
