Import from blogger -- how to test it beforehand and prevent notifications

I'm planning a major import of posts from a Google blogger blog to my wordpress.com blog, and need some guidance. How do I do the following:

    1) Test the import of postings from a Google blogger blog without changing or risking my current blog -- ideally I would get the updated site working in a 'test area' before going live.
    2) Disable my wordpress site temporarily and post a maintenance message
    2) Prevent email/RSS notifications for the imported postings

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is dreambigliveboldly.wordpress.com.

  2. 1) Make a whole new test blog and import it into that.

    2) if you want to hide the existing site while importing into it, you'll have to make all the posts Private before the import, make them private on the Blogger site before doing the export, and set a static front page for your blog here with the warning on it. But it shouldn't be necessary.

    3) I am not sure, but if the posts are Private and made Public I don't think a notification goes out. You could subscribe with another email and test it with the test blog.
