Importing from a MySL dump ?

  1. Hello, I'm moving my site from an external host to a dot wordpress dot com domain, because PHP doesn't work anymore at my web host... All I got left out of the current mess is a complete MySQL dump of the WP tables in SQL and CSV formats. Unfortunately I do not know how to import this back into my new blog except manually by cut-and-paste. It would be possible to do it this way if I had a full week to waste, though, but maybe someone here has a solution for automating this ?

  2. If you can email me the .sql file (zipped if possible) I can import that into a 2.1 install on my machine then export the file you need.

(Email address removed now it has been used)

  3. This is from an old version of Wordpress, I don't even know if the webhost modified it or not (custom installed by them), so it might prove hairier than it seems. Anyway, I'm emailing it to you now, and will remain indebted to you a long time if you can help me with this ! Thanks !

Mark will do a great job for you. He did precisely the same thing you need for my blog and nothing was lost in the translation. Welcome to WordPress.com!

  5. I for one would love to know who the old host was. Doesn't work anymore...

  6. What doesn't work?

  7. PHP doesn't work anymore on the poster's original host. Nothing to do with wp.com.

  8. The old host is Proxad. I have had a lot of trouble with it because they disallow changing access rights to files (so you cannot have self-editing or file-writing PHP code at all: one has to pick, in a short list, what dynamic pages one wants, and they install their custom version of it themselves on your webspace overnight), have disabled a number of PHP functions, use a custom build of Apache which uses a specific and rather unsecure htaccess file syntax, and now the PHP support has broken down for good. Fortunately the SQL server is seperate from the webserver and has its own PHPMyAdmin (which is about as far as I can go in terms of database management).

Mark indeed has done awesome work, everything has been imported and is working nicely :) Thanks a ton ! (if you happen to play Second Life, Mark, contact me ingame for a reward, same first name, last name Seraph)

  9. Maybe this says it all:

  10. Mark, any way you could do the same for me? Email me if you can (stshores24 at gmail dot com). I have the SQL dump handy. I also left a comment on your blog b/c I can't find any contact information for you on your Profile.

  11. I'd send in a feedback or email support directly at support at this domain. That way you can be sure someone sees the request. Don't send them the file until you hear back from them first though. That'll just tick them off if you do.
