Importing from blogger

  1. I have been trying to find out how to import posts from blogger but in vain. Can someone please help me in importing from blogger.

    Thanks a lot

  2. The Blogger importer is going to be extremely easy to use and 100% reliable when we make it available. Until then, keep blogging new stuff!

  3. Any idea how long it will be until the Blogger importer is available? That's great that it will be easy to use and reliable, but I feel like I need to stay on Blogger until I can do a full migration. As you can guess, I'm quite eager for the importer to be available so I can make the move.

  4. I use(d) ModBlog and i can back it up in either text or ModBlog XML...will either of those be supported...once i can import my old posts from ModBlog, i might actually be able to start using my wordpress blog.

  5. I'm just manually adding them from the old blog and then editing the dates. Do a dozen a day or so. :)

  6. What about comments?

  7. The Blogger importer is now active - look for the "Import" menu item in your blog backend!

  8. I'm a really new WordPress.com user - just signed up yesterday! I had my techie other half looking at mtsend.py yesterday but have today noticed that you have activated the import function - hurrah!

Only problem is that my comments don't seem to have been imported together with my posts, and the import tool suggests that should have happened. Can anyone help?

My original blog was not a Movable Type one but provided a function whereby you could export to MT, which is what I did - resulting output was saved to a text file and uploaded to my wordpress.com blog.

If anyone can offer any advice I'd be most grateful. Thanks!

  9. till now, i haven't heard of any way to import comments with posts except by importing the database...

  10. Is that currently possible at all with wordpress.com? Or in the pipeline? If not necessarily through wordpress.com itself then via some other method?

  11. Is that currently possible at all with wordpress.com? Or in the pipeline? If not necessarily through wordpress.com itself then via some other method?

Looks like that's a yes. I haven't tried it as I do not have a blog within the blogger system so I can't tell you how it works though.

  12. Cheers drmike for pointing me in the direction of that article - will follow up :)

  13. great job with importer!!!.....oh well but for some of us with Haloscan comments....is there a way to import them as well?!?!?

  14. Hmmm - drmike, have had a look at that article now and it doesn't actually answer the question (all it suggests is that the comments should have been imported, except they haven't been). I wonder if an administrator could help me out?

Just to reiterate: my original blog isn't a Movable Type one but provided a function whereby you could export to MT, which is what I did - resulting output was saved to a text file and uploaded to wordpress.com. Posts have come out fine (apart from some missing images which I'll have to investigate), but my comments are all missing. I don't know if it's got something to do with the face that the original blog wasn't in MT.

I do apologise if I'm being dense, but would appreciate your patience!

  15. There have been some issues with comments and the MT importer in WordPress 2.0, so it's possible that these may also afflict the version of WordPress MU used here. Your best bet is to contact the admins direct through the 'feedback' link on the dashboard.

  16. wank, thanks for that :) I've contacted the admins via the feedback link and will keep my fingers crossed :)

  17. monopod, it may be that your old blog software didn't put the comments into the text file. It would be awefully hard for WP to guess them ;-) Take a look in the text file and see if there are any comments in there.

  18. The bug that wank linked does not affect WP.com.

  19. Could someone please help me out?
i tried to import my Blogger blog.
But it prompted an error in template edit (the last step):

"Couldn't resolve host '-ooo-.blogspot.com'Your Blogger blog did not take the new template or did not respond."

All original posts written in Traditional Chinese (Big5) became garbage!
And no post moved into WordPress...

    Thanks.

  20. Hi andy, thanks for responding :) Nope, there are definitely comments in the text file! So that's not it... any other ideas?

    Thank you :)

  21. akja: that's an interesting problem. What is your blogspot address?

  22. Andy: That's really "interesting"...

Error occurred during this stage (57% done):
    "template-edit in progress, please wait..."

    My blogspot URL:
    http://-ooo-.blogspot.com

Current Status of the blogspot blog :
    1. Only list of archives left in the front page.
    2. Inside each archieves, only English posts can be shown, with no formatting (span, original format lost).
An interesting point: in HTML source file of the post page, the alignment/formatting was like the same as original.
    3. For Chinese (Big5) posts, blank post.
    4. all posts have a footer saying
    "12/05/2004 06:33:00 PM|W|P|-ooo-[post-title]|W|P||W|P|110218511190134742|W|P||W|P|[my email address]"

Inside administration menu of blogger, i still see all the posts, but all Chinese posts are encoded as garbage...
    and the template becomes:

  23. "Import from Blogger" worked like a charm...until I tried to click on my blogger blog again...it was completely disabled and a message re-directing to the WP.com site was in its place! Also, my RSS feeds and some formatting stuff in the Blogger blog are still completely fried! Not very cool, IMHO...

However, all that notwithstanding, I do like the WordPress better.

Just dont go screwin' around with people's stuff, you know?

  24. The Blogger importer works by changing your template into something it can read. When it's done, it tries to restore the template. If it fails, you must restore it manually. You followed the directions and made a backup of your template, right?

  25. I can't import my Blogger blog either. This is the error I continue to get, no matter how many times I try:

"Your Blogger blog did not take the new template or did not respond."

    The blog is here: http://xjbei.blogspot.com

No posts are imported into .wordpress.com blog either.

    Please help.

  26. The importer for blogger doesn't seem to be working on my blogger blog. It shows activity but gets to 99% (six times now) and then drops back to trying again. I'd really appreciate any ideas as to how to do this import. I have an extensive blogger blog and can't move to WordPress until I can accomplish the import.

    Thanks for any help.

  27. Seems I'm not the only one facing problems with the Blogger importer.

My import attempt doesn't even start:After giving my Blogger username and password, the importer just displays the message "Selecting Blog" and freezes.

    Any help would be appreciated

  28. It didn't work for me either. Three and a half hours later, I gave up. I just thought I had too many on my old blog to import.

  29. I am trying to import from blogger, but it keeps saying my login info is incorrect. Anybody else faced a similar problem? I know my info is correct coz I just logged out and logged back in with it ...

    Thanks,
    Rakhesh

  30. I have the same problem - Couldn't resolve host '.blogspot.com'Your Blogger blog did not take the new template or did not respond.

I have 661 posts in the blogger account. Is the size the problem?
