Importing from Blogger

  1. I'm trying to import from Blogger using the import function.

It used to work... but now it doesn't work properly anymore.

Can you guys please fix it?

  2. What exact problem are you running into?

  3. Thanks for the quick reply!

The title of each individual post carries over, along with all of the tags (though tags are converted to categories for some reason) but all of the images and all of the text content is nowhere to be found.

Is this just something I'm doing wrong? I'm pretty sure I'm doing things just as I've always done...

    I appreciate your help Raincoaster!

  4. Just to bump this, I'll also report that comments do not successfully import either.

The name of the commenter and the comment body are imported but the contents (text, pics, etc) are nowhere to be found.

It really was a handy feature to be able to import from Blogger to WordPress... Copying and pasting gets old pretty quick!

  5. Hi there,
We Volunteers can't help with import issues. The one you describe is not unknown and Staff will deal with it. I have flagged this thread for their attention. Please be patient while waiting.

  6. Thanks timethief!

  7. You're welcome.

  8. @melonscrapp: could you please link to a couple of examples of where it happens? Also, it seems that you are importing from several blogs (blogger/wordpress) - could you please give me some context about this, what your goal/rationale behind this is? I could also reset the importer for you so that you can try to import again.

  9. Hi Jenia, thanks for the reply!

I'm sorry - I can't link to an example for you because I've manually fixed them all already by just copying and pasting from my Blogger site.

I am not importing from several blogs though... only from Blogger.

As far as what my goal is... Well my goal is to import existing posts on my Blogger site over onto my WordPress site. One is essentially (as far as content) a mirror of the other.

I suppose the idea is not to have all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak. And also to reach a wider audience (Some people prefer WordPress - myself included - but there are also those who prefer Blogger, and their 'Followers' network, etc).

This functionality used to work flawlessly. I've used it all along - since I started Craftblogging - a little over a year ago... Since it had always worked - I guess I just expected that it would continue to work. I just thought you all might like to know so that you could fix it (or at least remove the button for it or something)... If it doesn't work why even have it in the first place type thing.

Anyhow, I've found a workaround by manually importing directly from a Blogger export file. Doing it this way it works just as it used to through the automated version.

I had already tried resetting the imported from my WordPress dashboard.

    Thanks again guys!

  10. Howdy, thank you for the detailed reply. The import does work in the overwhelming majority of cases, but occasionally a glitch may happen, that we are happy to troubleshoot. Unfortunately, since you've already reset the importer, there is no way for us to reproduce retroactively what happened.

Let me know if you run into importer issues again, I'll be happy to have another look and find a solution for you.
