Incoming Links?

  1. Hi,

I have just noticed on my 'latest activity' panel that a new sub-heading had appeared saying 'Incoming Links' then the word 'more' as a hyperlink. When I click mre it takes me to Google's Blog Search and displays my latest post.

I was just wondering what this was? This incoming links thing, not my latest post! ;)

    Many thanks.

  2. Those are the links that Google' Blogsearch servers have picked up leading to your blog. What you're actually seeing is Google has picked up on the link within your post which leads back to your blog. Normally it would be displaying other site's post if they link back to your site. For Example.

    Hope this helps,

  3. it's supposed to show you people who are linking to you. however, google hasn't yet figured out how to filter your own blog out of the search results, so your own post show up as linking to your blog.
once someone links to you, you'll see their post in that list as well.

  4. *chuckle* I'll take the extra hits. :)

  5. Ahhhh....I see. Makes sense now.

Would this work if someone was linking to an image in your blog as well?

    Thanks for the help.

  6. Would this work if someone was linking to an image in your blog as well?

I don't think so. I'm pulling my webcomic pictures from a seperate subdomain and they haven't shown up.

  7. I don't think it would work if the image were hosted at an image site like Photobucket, but presumably it would work if the image were hosted here at WordPress, because it would be an integral part of your blog.

Google blog search is, like all blog searches, kinda glitchy and it will NOT show every link at all times. Today I've seen links vanish and reappear without pattern or reason; it's a bug on Google's end. But at least it will give you a heads-up when someone new links to you, even if you haven't had any hits through the link.

  8. Like rain says they are all glitchy. Anyway I have learned to view the links coming and going and going and coming from google with a jaundiced eye. When I really want information about who's linking to my blog I go to my technorati account and find it there.

  9. Google blog search is, like all blog searches, kinda glitchy and it will NOT show every link at all times.

Also remember that Google has thousands of servers and they do rotate them between requests. They might have different information on each one. I know when Google PR updates, it usually takes a few days between servers to get them all showing the same thing.

    Thousands of servers. *drool*...
