- there are no word limits or any means of creating them on wp.com blogs that i'm aware of
- if you only want to display excerpts you can use the "read more" tag to cut the text where you want in each post - in the visual editor it's icon 13 (looks like a cut page) -
I know for a fact that blog posts can be up to at least 13,000 words, because I have one that long.
