Generally they do close comments on blog posts after a week or two, because the older a post is, the more likely it is to attract spam rather than relevant comments. Critical comments tend to languish in moderation anyway. The initial response to infinite scroll on the forums was overwhelmingly negative and that made no difference to staff's decision to roll it out across all themes, though it did force them to provide an opt-out. Basically, they're not hugely interested in feedback because user opinion is rarely uniform and you can't keep everyone happy, so the priority has to be pleasing their bosses, advertisers and investors.
