Inserting Excel Charts into Blog Post

It is impossible to insert Excel charts into blog posts. I tried converting it to a jpeg and a gif. It totally distorts it when uploaded, and you can't see any of the data.

The blog I need help with is musingsandmotions.wordpress.com.

  2. I see that you can upload the .xls, .xlsx (Microsoft Excel Document) files as they are accepted file types. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/ and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/

  3. If you are following those instructions and they are not working for you then you can contact Staff for help on January 3rd, 2011 by using this link. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  4. For a "spreadsheet" to show up in a blog you have two choices. One is to convert it completely to an HTML table. The other is to use a service such as scribd, but do be aware that if you have a table that is far wider than the available space in the theme you are using, it is either going to be severely distorted in order to show it in the available width, or part of it is going to be completely hidden from view.

Scribd does include zoom in and zoom out functions and will place appropriate scroll bars, but in my experience if you have a large spreadsheet, and a slower internet connection using scribd can be quite painful for a user.

  5. If you are on Windows, you might check out the blog client called Windows Live Writer which has a table function build into it and I believe you can copy paste spreadsheets from Excel into it and it will convert them to HTML tables. I'm not positive on that, but I am reasonably sure.

  6. The maximum width for your theme (Tarski) is found here. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/

  7. Yeah, Tarski is very narrow. I would suggest looking at themes that have wider post areas if you are going to be publishing tables.

  8. To insert Excel charts into blog posts, use the Excel Web App. Here is an example: http://datawiz.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/visualize-your-data-with-interactive-charts/

  9. @datawiz-Oh.my. That's brilliant! You've made a lot of WordPress.com users very happy indeed. Bookmarked!

  10. I've posted a small Excel add-in at the end of this article that will export an excel chart as an image file:
