installing theme using filezilla

  1. I have recently bought my domain name using wordpress, and i have also purchased a theme of wpzoom.com. I'm trying to use filezilla to instal my theme to my blog but i need a username and a password. here is where im stuck and i need some help.

    here is my blog:

    http://candidavenue.com/

    and this is theme:

    http://demo.wpzoom.com/magazinum/

The blog I need help with is candidavenue.com.

  2. You don't get FTP access to WordPress.com blogs, only WordPress.org. You can select predefined themes but not upload your own. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  3. The relevant Support doc is quite clear:

    Important Notes Before Upgrading
    [...]
The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not permit the use of any kind of prohibited code or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service.

  4. is there anyway i can become self hosted so that i can upload my own themes.

  5. Yes,
If you google "moving from wordpress.com to wordpress.org" you will see lots of helpful articles.

If you want "wordpress.com" to do the transfer for you there is the guided transfer, but it will cost yo $119. From what I can gather its easy to do yourself though.

  6. thanks.

  7. It's very easy, but it might be an expensive choice just so you can use the theme you like. Hosting is at least ten dollars a month.

  8. could a cancel my domain name with wordpress, so that i can be hosted by other companies and pick the same domain.

  9. You can use a wordpress domain name without cancelling it. Just use the DNS setup to point it to your hosting domain's name servers, or set up the "A" records etc at wordpress. Alternatively you can transfer it to another domain register (I think there is a cooling off period of 30 days after registration)

From what other people have said if you cancel a domain with WordPress even in the permitted period it goes into some holding state and is not released for immediate reuse. And when it is released someone else might get it.
