Intermittent Publicise to Facebook Problem

  1. Hey,

Quick question... I have been using WP for a while now and unfortunately the Publicise to Facebook option is very flaky - i.e. I can never be sure if, when publishing a post to my blog, if it will be posted to my facebook page as it is supposed to do.

I have found that I have to regularly have to remove the Publicise option from WordPress.com and remove the app permissions from Facebook and then add both back... Once I have done this, then it seems to work for a few posts and then it just stops out of the blue.

I have never had this problem with the Publicise to Twitter - any posts to WP are immediately posted to Twitter without any problems - its only to Facebook.

Adding links manually to Facebook is an option but the automatic posting is so much easier and if it worked as it is supposed to then it would be great.

Is anyone else having similar issues? I don't really want to do it manually but I cannot trust the automatic Publicise option anymore.

Has anyone found another solution to this issue?

    Thanks

  2. Facebook frequently changes things so yes other have this issue frequently, which is why there are reconnection instructions provided in support documentation.

    1. Try flushing your FB cache but disconnect from FB first http://umairj.com/146/how-to-clear-facebook-shares-cache/

    2. (a) Try the full reconnect procedure again detailed at http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-facebook including step 3 (removing the FB app), which is probably the most important step.
    (b) http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-twitter

    3. See also publicize troubleshooting http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#troubleshooting

Note: RSS Grafitti http://www.facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti can be used for posting to Facebook walls if you prefer. RSS Graffiti periodically checks the RSS/Atom feeds that you specify and posts any new entries it finds to the Facebook Walls that you specify. You can get any feed written on any wall (Facebook Profiles, Fan Pages, Groups, Events and Application Profile Pages). In fact, multiple feeds to multiple walls. You choose the combination.

Please note that reconnecting Publicize with Facebook and/or with Twitter does not re-publicize missed posts, but it will work for future posts.

  3. Already doing all the things you suggest - just a real pity it has to be done so often to ensure things run smoothly.

I have checked out RSS Grafitti and it seems like it would work... What gets me is that they seem to be able to manage to keep their system in-sync with Facebook backend updates (check their support/update news) and I really wish WP could do the same so that I did not have to go to a third party and give them access to the notoriously insecure Facebook system. I am already committed to WP so it would make sense not to use a third party service for something WP already does.

I suppose that I will just have to bite the bullet with everyone else struggling with this issue.

    Thanks for the reply.
