Internet Explorer stretching images in Pilcrow

  1. Hi all,

My blog views well in Firefox and Safari but other people have noticed that IE stretches the large images I insert in posts. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is bishsdishes.wordpress.com.

  2. Your complaints to Microsoft (for the lousy browser they keep planting to people's computers).

I checked the first image on your latest post, and it's 3465px wide, resolution 180. There's absolutely no point uploading such huge files when most users' screens are no wider than 1000 or 1200px and when all browsers display images at a resolution of 72: you're only wasting your storage space and needlessly increasing the loading time of your pages. For best results (including no issues with IE) you should downsize copies of your images in an image editing application to a resolution of 72 and a width not exceeding the maximum for the theme you're using, and upload and insert these copies. This will give you better quality as well, because images downsized by WP lose some color and sharpness.

  3. Thanks very much - I understand what you are saying. I will give it a go on the next post.

  4. You're welcome.
