intrusive and objectionable adverts in firefox

  1. I was stunned to learn that my site shows a mass of crappy adverts in Firefox. I use Explorer & Chrome so was totally unaware. Also, individual words have been hijacked. The word "Well" appears to be a hyperlink but a mouseover pops up a gambling site advert. do not want to promote online gambling.

Why is this happening? How can I prevent it? Why is it only firefox?

  2. WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot upload it into your Media Library and post the file name here so Staff know it's there for them to view.

  3. That being said I want you to be aware that others who have complained about ads proved to be seeing ads provided via browser add-ons and/or extensions. Please try logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies, disabling all browser add-ons and extensions, and then do a computer malware and virus scan. Lastly, reboot your computer and try logging in again. View your blog and if the ads you see are being caused by browser adware then you will not still see the advertising you saw before.

  4. Thanks for this full response. However (cough), I downloaded Firefox to my own pc and there are no ads and no randomly hyperlinked words (that was the worst horror). I changed no settings to block ads. I can only assume that the machine displaying this behavior has a compromised Firefox. So I withdraw my remarks in a cloud of embarrassment ;-)
