   I'd like to invite friends to view private site. The "invitation" seems to require the signing of a wordpress account, as well as assigning certain privilege to my site. Ideally I'd like to have a single password for my site, but it seems that only pages can be password protected.
   Below is what I'd like to achieve:
   - The site is read-only to any viewer
   - The site is by invitation only, but not require a wordpress account
   - The site is password-protected

   Can you please help me with this?

   I'm sorry, John, but your users will have to create a WordPress blog and be invited if you'd like them to view a private blog. The lowest setting for user roles is Contributor, which will also let them create a post, though it can't be published without admin approval. Both posts and pages can be password protected, so that may be the best route for you.

   Thanks for the reply, thehline. Even thought that's the conclusion I got after an hour or so trying, it's good to get a definitive answer so I can stop trying! :o)
