invitees cannot find my private blog

  1. my invitees to my private blog who have now created a wordpress account still cannot find my blog, redbudto kukui. We're all getting pretty frustrated out here… Have I posted this blog post incorrectly? I wanted this question to go to wordpress.com staff - hate to burden "the community" with it...

The blog I need help with is redbud4now.wordpress.com.

  2. What is the URL starting with http:// for this blog you refer to as "redbudto kukui"?

  3. I wanted this question to go to wordpress.com staff - hate to burden "the community" with it...

This is the peer support forum.

  4. I have NO idea - nor do I know how to get it and tell you. I just now went to my post, hoping I would see the URL but I could not figure it out.

  5. I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  6. BTW, I appreciate your response - and the name of the blog is "redbud to kukui" (I had omitted one of the spaces in the title)

  7. Thanks! How do I subscribe to the thread?

  9. BTW this is the blog URL here http://redbudtokukui.wordpress.com/

  10. Hi redbud4now,

If you invite users to your blog, they will automatically receive a link that allows them to join your blog, or to create an account with us.

Once they have done so, they should be able to see your blog at http://redbudtokukui.wordpress.com/ once they are logged in at WordPress.com. Otherwise they will only see a login window asking them for their credentials, and if they are not a user on your blog, they will not be able to see it.

This link explains how to add new users to your blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/

  11. Thanks. Unfortunately, when I set up published this blog, I chose the option to allow the people I was inviting to be "viewers". I do not see that option on the link you sent me on how to invite users…. so have I chosen a category that no longer exists and is that why my friends who HAVE created wordpress.com accounts cannot find my blog? 3rd and 4th questions: how am I supposed to provide the actual link to my blog and why should I have to do that?

  12. Hi again,

The link I posted explains how to add people as users or followers.

Once you have invited them, and they have confirmed their invitation, they will be able to see your blog when they go to the address http://redbudtokukui.wordpress.com/ , just like any other website. They should also see the blog listed in their list of blogs on WordPress.com and should be able to see the blog in their Reader if they choose.

  13. You did not answer my question about the category "viewers". Or my other questions either.

  14. Hi again,

I'm sorry if I'm not being helpful here. Perhaps I've misunderstood your question?

This specific section of the document addresses how to invite viewers to a private blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/#invite-people-to-view-your-private-blog

I'm not sure what you mean by category otherwise. Categories are used to classify posts, and have nothing to do with users.

If your friends have WordPress.com accounts AND if they have been invited to view your blog (or have been invited as users) they should see the blog in their list of blogs. They can also view it directly using the URL for the blog itself, and will not need to log in directly to your blog if already logged in at WordPress.com.

  15. I do appreciate your effort to solve this problem but none of the 20 or so people I've invited have been able to see my blog. None. These are smart people who know how to follow directions

I did follow the links/ instructions immediately after I posted my blog that I published as PRIVATE. The other category of invitee that your first set of responses did not address, as I said before,is VIEWER. I "invited" my friends to see my blog and assigned them the role of VIEWER.

Can someone PLEASE take a look at perhaps the technical pieces of my post and see what the problem is?

I posted my blog Friday evening, HST and it is now Tuesday. Way too long to go without resolution. It is helpful when what I write on this "support" page is read with care.

Again, I appreciate your effort. I still need a solution. First impressions are important. At this moment I would not "go premium" based on this experience with WordPress.com so far. There is an opportunity here...

  16. Hi again,

Thank you for the additional information. I think perhaps I understand the issue now.

You have a private blog at redbudtokukui.wordpress.com. The only people who can see anything on that blog are those you have invited to do so.

On that blog, you posted a new blog post on Friday entitled, (in part), "One Month Today!". That blog post was also set to private.

Viewers of your private blog will not be able to see that post. However, if you go to the post editor and change the Visibility from Private to Public, and update the post (meanwhile keeping your overall blog settings set to private), that should resolve the issue. Even though it's "public" only your viewers will be able to read it.

  17. Now we're getting somewhere. I will try what you recommend and let you know the result. Thank you.

  18. Whew! I'm glad I could help you out.

Please let me know if you continue to have issues with this or if you have any other questions.

  19. I am in the process of re-inviting my friends now as a signal that this is hopefully resolved (I've changed the post to public and re-published which I assume is what you meant by "update". )

I have another question: can a VIEWER also respond with comments? If not, what category should I use to allow my readers to respond with comments in this situation?

  20. Yes, viewers may post comments on blog posts.
