Is account log-in required for a like to be counted?

  1. Based on this article (http://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/), I didn't find the answer that I'm looking for. To be able to click on "like," you have to log in to WordPress .com? In other words, people who don't have an account need to create one in order for their like to be counted?

The blog I need help with is blog.slingbox.com.

  2. Hello there,
I can answer that. :) Yes one has to have a WordPress.com/Gravatar account and be logged into WordPress.com to use the "in-house" like button for WordPress.com bloggers. In other words, it's the same here as it is at Facebook and everywhere else there is an "in-house" like button provided for member use only.

  3. Please be aware that Likes, follows, shares and reblogs are not page view stats. In fact, likes, shares and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "like", "share" and "reblog" your posts in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Comments are gold and likes are as common as grass. That's due to the prevalence of like button spammers who click only to have your readers click back to their profiles and commercial sites.

  4. Rats! Sorry about the unintended duplication above.

  5. Thanks so much for your detailed response! Makes sense, but WordPress should really point that out. Appreciate it! :)

    No worries on the repeat!

  6. Thanks for being kind about the repeat - I'm really tired. Best wishes with your blog. :)
