Is blogging dangerous?

  1. Yep, that's him. From the site I linked above:

"Metzger has also appeared on nationally syndicated talk shows, often with his son John, as well as with neo- Nazi skinheads. His more notable appearances include a November 1988 episode of The Geraldo Rivera Show, during which the younger Metzger taunted an African-American activist with racial slurs, causing a brawl during which Rivera's nose was broken by a flying chair."

  3. I meant to add--If I'm doing something that makes that guy mad, clearly I'm blogging in a correct fashion :)

It's so sad how many mentally ill folks are online making threats. I guess an even greater number are finding help and community online, though, so that helps me put up with the occasional crazy troll.

I hope the IP of your crazy troll is far away!

  4. I just checked and she left commented in August. I Googled her name and nothing about her salso since 2007. Maybe she was finally jailed or institutionalized.

  5. blogging has upset my daily life and my goals.

i'm at a point when i crave for hits more than class marks, comments matter more than real-life conversations and figuring out wordpress solutions attracts me more than creating artworks and i am an artist).
i can never make time to do chores cos i am creating drafts instead.
i care more for clean code that for a clean room.
i don't watch tv, cos i am spending time on the net.
sometimes when i go put i feel really disoriented, cos i have been staring at at screen the whole day and my spatial intelligence seems paralyzed.

well, i am not like this most of the time....but anyhow........sometimes i feel really worried.

  6. Hmm, what could potentially get you in trouble?

  7. Blogging is only dangerous when it turns from harmless fun into stalker threats and constant emails of "I know what you're wearing" or "I can see you." I write under my nickname, because I don't like people who know me know more into my personal life. But I don't trash talk them either or use real names of people who I know, because that could potentially put me and them in danger.

I always monitor what I write, because my father always tells me, that once it's out there, anyone can see it, so I am often careful not to put my address, tele or real name in any posts.

  8. If you're over 18 +, information about yourself is readily available in white pages.

  9. Not necessarily: I'm not listed, haven't been for ten years.

  10. Good news! Not only was the lawsuit I mentioned initially dismissed, the judge reprimanded the lawyer :)

I'm still staying anonymous on my blog, though.

  11. Pseudonymous, actually. It's a legal distinction as well as a philosophical one. After all, Bug Girl has a reputation. Which you are now by law entitled to have distinct from your "civilian" reputation.

  12. How do you not get listed?

  13. In the telephone book? Tell the phone company in your region that publishes it that you don't want to be listed - either in print or online. Your name should be gone in the next edition.
We pay extra for that in Germany, but I think it's worth it. One of the things I did a month or two before starting my blog.

  14. Or just don't have a landline.

  15. Oh, I might find out how dangerous blogging is. I think I'm in a flamewar with Rachel Marsden.

    Rachel Marsden:

  16. Um, no you're not actually in a "flame war" with me, dear. That would require disagreement.

  17. Also, that Salon link isn't exactly about me. Not sure what it's about exactly.

  18. I do disagree with you. But I owe you an apology: did not realize you were flirting, because I didn't recognize your style.
