Is it naughty . ..

  1. to submit more than once to reddit? I would swear that sometimes those submissions never go through. some days they will send me 300 hits and others only two.

    Weird. :)

The blog I need help with is tessf.com.

  2. I never bother with Reddit anymore, they never made much impact on my stats =/

  3. sorry for my ignorance but what's reddit? :)

  4. My first post did well, but then others poorly, so I don't bother with it. It really is a badly designed sites as well! I can't understand its popularity as it looks like it hasn't changed since the 90s.

  5. @ joe reddit (pronounced /ˈrɛdɪt/)[3] is a social news website where the registered users submit content, in the form of either a link or a text "self" post. Other users then vote the submission "up" or "down," which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site's pages and front page.

I never used it - I am going to try it with a link now though - I am interested what the results will be (or if any)

  6. I have had a lot of traffic from there, most of it comes from there actually. One day I had 350 hits from Reddit alone. Not a big number for some of you, I guess but for me it was awesome!

  7. @tess wow that's pretty impressive!
So do you have to be a member or is it free for all bloggers?

  8. You have to register up to it, but it's free, I never had 350 hits from em haha but a lot of them don't really read the posts anyway.

  9. OK so reddit is dead. What else can we try to bring in more traffic? :)

  10. @pete, they don't really read them? is it a spambot thingy or something?

  11. ahhh don't say that tess I was getting all excited about getting loads of free traffic-damn reddit!

  12. No I mean they may click on your link, find it just to be a lot of words then click off of it lol

  13. sweet just signed up and got loads of hits on this poem

None will have probably read it as you say Pete which slightly defeats the object of a blog but hey ho

  14. Naughty? Yes, it's the kind of thing that will put you on the watchlist and then groups of people will automatically downvote EVERYTHING you post to Reddit. So is posting only your own content to reddit.

  15. @everyone
It's really important to listen to raincoaster. There are appropriate behaviors for social networking and there are inappropriate, opportunistic, spammy behaviors that will lead to very bad results.

  16. Thanks. I learned this lesson the hard way years ago.

  17. Oh, thanks you guys. It's just that we need about seventeen hours a day to network and make connections and I guess that was one place I was trying to cut corners. I will try to be careful of that from now on.

(At first I only did it because I wasn't sure they were registering there. But noted. And redfaced at being such a noob)

  18. (have never done that more than twice for one post . ..and that was only because it didn't get through. ..so I HOPE I didn't ruin it for myself. Stats have fallen lately. :(

  19. Not all social networking platforms hate that behaviour, but ALL of them reward people who put more than just their own self-promotion into them.

  20. you know it's been my intention to do more of that, because it's fun to explore everythign that's out there anyway, but then i get busy and crazy and just forget. thanks for the reminder though. i don't want to be a jerk. :(

  21. @raincoaster you are a fountain of knowledge!

  22. Thanks. I've been called a lot of things; that's one of the politer things.

  23. If you keep repeatedly posting your own links, the spam filters will block you which results in poor traffic. That should explain why your latter posts didn't get the huge influx of traffic you had expected. I had to learn this the hard way.

  24. thanks, sami. :(

seriously, they should make it really awesomely apparent to the noobs that it's not just like submitting your stuff to an online reading list. :(

not so much rude as not knowing the rules.

  25. OK well I've just dashed off a note of apology and plea for forgivenss and instructions for redeeming myself. .don't know if it will help any. . .

Meantime, I'll push yours if you'll push mine those of you who've made pariahs of yourselves there like moi. :P
