Is it possible to make my one column Blog a 2 column?

  1. Hello,

    I currently use the Ever After custom design. I love this theme but would prefer to have it a 2 column so that my search, recent posts, categories, archives and our friends isn't all shoved at the bottom left hand corner, but rather displays starting just below my menu items on the left hand side.

    Is there a css code I could use to alter this? I've tried searching both on here and online for an answer but have not been successful in finding one.

    The blog I need help with is pinninggals.com.

  2. Generally you can't change a theme that is only one column to one that has two columns. I'd suggest that you choose a different theme that uses two. Have a look at this:

  3. You might be able to use absolute positioning to move some of the widgets around on the page. However, it's quite tricky. For it to work, you must position each widget separately and you have to tell the widget exactly where you want it to be height-wise. That means the widgets you choose to move to the left must be a fixed height or they will overlap with each other any time the height changes. I put together an example for you:

    This sets up the spacing:

    #content {
    	margin: 0 auto;
    	width: 47%;
    }
    #secondary {
    	position: static;
    	float: right;
    	margin-right: 6%;
    	width: 15%;
    }

    And this moves one of the widgets to the left:

    #main {
    	position: relative;
    }
    #recent-posts-2 {
    	position: absolute;
    	width: 15%;
    	top: 0;
    	left: 6%;
    	padding-top: 26px;
    }

    To determine which selector to use, I looked at the page source using the browser, and I found that the recent posts widget had an ID of "recent-posts-2" and so that's why the last part of the example uses "#recent-posts-2" as the selector.

  4. Thank you. I ended up changing to a theme that better gave me what i need..almost :)

  5. Glad to hear a new theme is working better for you!
