My wife kept a blog from around beginning of 2005 keeping family photos/stories online. Without receiving any emails from Spaces/Microsoft/WP etc. today we realize that it's not accessible any longer. Is there a way to request a backup from MS from where we can recover all those memories?
I still can't believe this sort of thing could occur without notifying their users via emails to their registered addresses.

I'm not clear on why you think this is a WordPress.com issue and why you are asking for help here. I suggest that you go to the support forums of Windows Live.
