Is Text possible inside the Archive short-code

  1. I am adding a drop down menu of all posts archive to my blogs footer..

    using the code:

    [ Archives= option}

    using the directions @ http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/#options

    it works fine except that the actual visible element looks like a blank rectangle.

    you can see it at the bottom my home page http://echopen.wordpress.com/.

    What I would like to know is can I add text in the big ugly rectangle (such as "All Posts" or "Archives")

    and If so, how do I do that?

    The blog I need help with is echopen.wordpress.com.

  2. sorry code I used should read:

    [archives format=option]

  3. That would be something that staff would have to change. It isn't something that we can assign or control.

  4. Thats too bad. Perhaps an idea for the future.
    Thanks Thesacredpath,
    I leave it as it is for now.

  5. You are welcome, and perhaps just drop a note to staff and ask about it. The only issue I see is if they choose some text to put in their, some people will not mind, and others will pitch a fit and organize a lynch mob complete with pitchforks and torches.

    The capabilities of the function they are using is really quite limited so to give us more flexibility with the shortcode would require actually writing an entirely new function (they are working off an existing core function right now).

    In my opinion they should replace the dashes with "Select Post" (compare with the Categories and monthly Archives dropdowns).

  7. Or even just "select" since it could be monthly or yearly archive listings as well.
