Since I launched my new site on WordPress I have been getting more spam emails to [email redacted] than ever before. Is there a reason for this that's connected to the site?
Most of the emails are pitches to improve my Google search rating or to improve my SEO.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.
The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It's removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.
On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.
There is no such thing as eliminating all spam and Akismet is an excellent spam filter.
Spam comes in waves and spammers "stake out" blogs for targeting once they have enough traffic to prompt them to blast the blog. If you have approved a spam comment that can make the post become a spam magnet.

I've also been getting a lot of comment spam coming thru and posting in the last two days. Akismet is still catching a lot daily, but someone has found a way through, even gloated about how they found way around WordPress filters in one of the spam comments.
I noticed some are using fake facebook accounts, and it looks like they're copying and pasting comments people made on other blogs. The comments look legit but have nothing to do with my post topic!
I don't know how that facebook & comment with no link strategy helps anyone's SEO, but maybe they're testing something.
Came to forums before I go to work to alert someone. It's a pain to manually delete so much spam that gets through.
I am marketing these comments "spam" and hopefully others are too and Akismet will catch up.
For three days a good bit of spam has slipped through and I've received emails that I have comments to be moderated.
That's one of the best lines of defense. If you set up things in such a way that new comments have to be moderated, it's easy as pie to simply designate a new comment as spam and delete the email.
The other virtue of first-comment moderation is that it allows you to take a look at the source if you're uncertain whether it's really spam.
As timethief says, these things come and go. I've been here for five years, and about twice a year the spammers learn a new trick. Then, they go away. ;)
