Is there any multilingual theme?

  1. Hi,
I want to have my blog in two languages, and I just need the readers to be able to switch between them. I know this is easier having a wordpress.org blog and uploading a plugin, but I have mine in wordpress.com. Is there any theme (free or premium) that has multilingual option?

I have searched this forum but found no answer at all.

    Many thanks!

The blog I need help with is andreuescriva.com.

  2. Would linking to Google Translate be good enough like this: http://leytonstonetoday.net/translation/ or do you need a fully accurate translation. I don't think you can do that on WordPress.com unless you create a duplicate set of pages and posts all as child pages of the language links on the menu.

  3. It's easiest to set up an entirely separate site for each language (the site is free, after all) using the same theme for both and then linking between the two.

I'm actually rather surprised that you searched and didn't find the answer at all because this is a very popular topic. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/multilingual

  4. There are no multilingual themes. You can set only one interface language here > Settings > General. There is no FTP access to our free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot install plugins. We cannot use Microsoft or Google translation widgets or any other JavaScript widgets, as the code is stripped out to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

However, I have translation on my WordPress.com blogs. There are two workarounds and you will find them here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
Note: You can copy and paste the code on my Translations page and then replace every occurrence of my blog's URL in the code with your own blog's URL.

Re: bilingual blogging and/or mutlilingual blogging

If you are bilingual or multilingual and want to publish your free hosted WordPress.com in two or more languages but do not want to rely on machine translation that can be done. You can have two or more blogs in different languages and interlink them via categories and custom menus. There’s also a workaround for publishing posts in two or more languages in the same blog. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/02/25/wordpress-com-multilingual-blogs/

  5. Hi all,
many thanks for your kind and useful answers. I hope to be able to translate -in one way or another- my blog.
    Again, thank you all!

  6. @andreuescriva
You're welcome and best wishes with your blog. :)
