It said my post has been published but it is NOT

  1. Hi. Please enlighten me on this as this is the first time that this has ever happened to me. The moment I published my post, it says it 'did' publish my post but when I clicked to view it, it only showed the Title of my post! I clicked to Edit but there really was no content! It was a quite long blog post. In fact during the whole time I was typing, it kept saying that my post is being saved every few minutes. I also checked the Drafts section but can't find even a copy of it. I tried doing sample posts, and it's the same result - only the title is being captured/shown! Please do something about it and advise. It was very disappointing. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is muntingtinig.wordpress.com.

  2. You may be able to recover an earlier post revision. Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

If you're not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.

Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

Or did you create your post on the front page of WordPress.com?
    http://wordpress.com/#!/post/

  3. Hi timethief,

I followed your instructions and saw 2 versions of my post - the current one and an 'autosaved' version. However even the auto-saved version contained nothing except the title, exactly the same as the current one. Ugh.

Yes, I believe did created my post in the front page http://wordpress.com/#!/post/

    :(

  4. Always, ALWAYS create the post from your dashboard. I can't tell you how many people are running into exactly this problem. The New Post page on your dashboard works with the autosave. Nothing else seems to.

  5. Whaaat? Honestly this is the first time I run into this problem. Is there really no other way to retrieve the text from the post? I wanna cry now :(
I guess lesson learned the hard way. Thanks for the help guys.

  6. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is. If it's not in your Trash file or Revisions, and you can't back arrow to it, I'm afraid you're out of luck. There are dozens and dozens of people complaining of this problem, using the WordPress front page or the New Post button on the Admin bar.

  7. No, couldn't find it anywhere. I guess it's rather I do it again or just let it go. Sigh. That's so weird coz I just tried posting a sample today using the front page and it worked. Tsk.

Dear WordPress: please fix or just remove it for the moment if you can't fix it right away. It's so annoying (and that's an understatement)

  8. Hi muntingtinig,

You are so right - it is way more than annoying, and it's not fair to our users. We are working on fixing this - we have a number of users who have heartbreakingly lost their work, and I can not apologize enough. Even so, I want to say clearly: I am sorry this happened to you.

While our investigation is on-going, I'd like to get some information from you to help us try to narrow this down.

So it sounds like you were posting in Newdash. This is the "front page" that many users refer to: http://wordpress.com/#!/post/

How long did it take for you to write the content? An hour? About 45 minutes? 20 minutes? Any kind of ballpark figure will help us out!

While you were writing, did you navigate away from the page?

While you were writing, did you switch to a different active browser screen (say you had multiple tabs open)?

Thank you for any clarifying details you can provide. And again - I am very sorry. We look forward to chasing this down and making sure it doesn't keep happening.

  9. Hi zandyring

Yes, I did post in NewDash. I believe it took me about 45 mins to about an hour considering the post was indeed long. I think I have about a few tabs open while typing the whole time though I wasn't navigating from one tab to another every now and then.

Hope this gets resolved soon. I love WordPress and it's just disappointing to be a victim of this very crucial issue. Thanks.

  10. My internet connection is shaky much of the time so just before I publish any post I hit preview. That way if the publishing doesn't work I at least have something to cut and paste from once I get it going again.

I know that this is not the same problem but it has has saved me a few times and is way better than finding your hard work has just disappeared.

  11. Hi Muntingtinig,

Thank you so much for the feedback. It confirms some suspicions, and will really help us as we pull together information from our various users who experienced the same problem.

We love our users, too, and it's really painful to be the cause of such anguish.

  12. We believe we've traced down this bug and fixed it. If you do lose a post again, please let us know. We're truly sorry for the inconvenience!
