java script why won't it save? - stock quotes box

  1. Hi. For the past 4 months having wordpress I haven't really been able to add any java script or html into my blog to make it more user/graphic friendly. It shows but then deletes itself in the code. I am copying and pasting correctly.

heres one of the code. is there something I have to turn on or off?

<!-- Start of Yahoo! Finance code -->
    <iframe allowtransparency="true" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" hspace="0" vspace="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="http://api.finance.yahoo.com/instrument/1.0/SHLD,FXI,NYX,AAPL,NUE,RIMM,MSO,AMAT,OIH,QQQQ/badge;quote/HTML?AppID=MvNxNIt9QA0qY1J4gkJcwn3I3YOIiL4-&sig=S0xXZTiaHPA.X.4Tzp6OWrp2z6Q-&t=1164700969341" width="200px" height="506px"></iframe>
<!-- End of Yahoo! Finance code -->

  2. Javascript is not allowed in wordpress.com for security reasons. The editor will strip it from your posts.

If you really, really, REALLY need javascript you will need to go to a hosted version of wordpress...

  3. If you're having an ongoing issue like this I always suggest you do a search in the Forum Search box. You'll find a lot of threads explaining why javascript is disallowed; essentially, because we all share themes and blogging environments, if one person installed something vulnerable, security-wise, we'd all be at risk, all 500,000 of us. Rather than take that chance, WordPress has limited the number of embeds, etc here: odeo, youtube. grouper and google video, plus one or two other things. No javascript, though.

  4. This thread from the forum searchbox addresses iframes like the code you posted above http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=5510&replies=11#post-35604
These FAQs threads provide an answer to the javascript question

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/
This also explains why javascript is stripped in greater detail.
But if you feel these features are important then don't despair. You can either self host or hire a web host and download a wordpress.org blog free of charge like the others have pointed out. Here's the thread from the pink sticky post at the head of the forum that explains the differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1

  5. 4 months?

    /me shakes his head.

Just for reference, it's also covered in the FAQ posted at the head of these very forums.
