Me and couple of friends are thinking of a joint blog together.
Is this possible? And are there any good examples of where it has been done?

There are many examples of Multi-Author WordPress.com Blogs. Those who create theme are careful to have a single Admin on the blog and to cautiously assign user roles when they add official users to their blogs.
