Just Beginning, Requesting Assistance

  1. Just started at wordpress.

How do you switch from any of the default themes?

Where do you get the wordpress folder?

Does it matter where that (wordpress) folder is stored on your computer?

How do switch some of the color schemes?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Max

  2. Hi there.
    (1) switching themes
-> Dashboard -> Presentation -> Themes (click on the theme of your choice)
    (2) You do not have access to the folder as we cannot alter the underlying php of wordpress.com blogs and change colours or twiddle and tweak with this and that. At wordpress.com we are all on a shared multi-user blogging platform and allowing that would mean you would affect all of our blogs too. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/27/edit-my-templates/

Likewise and due to security concerns we cannot use javascript, iframes and some other media embeds (google, grouper and youtube videos are okay and so is an odeo player).

    (3) You can however pay for an upgrade and undertake css customization only to adjust the appearance of your blog and not the underlying php code. The price for css customization upgrading is $15 per year for one blog. http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/08/17/try-custom-css/

    (4) Or you can self host or hire a web host and download a free wordpress blog template from wordpress.org and in this case you can hack the template you choose to your heart's content. http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1
