Just joined wordpress and confused

  1. My current website is http://www.tennismason.com.au joomla

I wish to build a wordpress website with the same attributes as http://www.briansolis.com/ which is wordpress!

I am asking what this will cost me please ? My new theme will change to online coaching so I shall be eliminating most of the coaching tabs. I would call my blog tennismasoncoaching.com or tennismasononlinecoaching.com

I wish to be able to easily upload my teaching videos from my Samsung tablet to the new site (?) – we will offer them free and using the “get the blog sent to your inbox by entering your email address” option as in the http://www.briansolis.com/ website

We would keep the 7 headings but obviously change the naming of each to suit our tennis theme.

We would like to have easy uploading to the social media main players as per this site with a podcast option.

We must be comfortable that smartphones and tablets will have no problems viewing the website/s?

Can I assume the archive segment will greatly help our SEO concern?

We would probably convert the much smaller joomla version of our current http://www.tennismason.com.au to wordpress format which would sell tennis equipment and lessons much the same as now.
I would greatly appreciate your advice before moving ahead.

Especially, I need to be told if my idea is sound – I just cannot proceed ahead without some support and direction please.

  2. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you'll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don't understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It'll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

  3. The purpose of the questions is to understand costs before building a website. all I need is for someone to help me understand. i feel like I am way on my own. I need to know if what I wish to do with wordpress is possible - and I need to know a costing. I trust this make sense.

  4. First, you need to take a look at the different varieties of wordpress. That will help you decide if you want free hosting with restrictions, or if you want to pay for a domain name, and host, and to deal with the possible problems if you are not experienced:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  5. I wish to be able to easily upload my teaching videos

If you want to upload videos directly to wp.COM you will need an upgrade. I'm not experienced with Samsung tablets, but here is info about the video upgrade for the free hosted wp.COM site:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/

We would like to have easy uploading to the social media main players as per this site with a podcast option.

podcast info from wp.COM support documents:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/

As for your other questions, please be sure to read the links I have provided. If those work for you, then we can proceed with more information about wp.COM. Otherwise, you should look at the options wp.ORG provides.

  6. I guess I am saying I am deciding to pay for a domain name and host. Cost is $99? or how much with the extras I have listed please?
Should it not be possible to nominate the ideal wordpress site I desire and then simply be able to change the content to my tennis theme?
    My ideal model is http://www.briansolis.com/

  7. Again, please read about the differences between wp.COM and wp.ORG.
For information about the upgrade costs, please read the support docs I linked to:

The VideoPress upgrade allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog. The VideoPress upgrade costs $60.00 per year and per blog, and can be purchased at VideoPress.com or under Store in your Dashboard.

re podcasts, I don't think you have to pay, but again, re-read my link. If you want to upload your own audio:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

Note that, if you wish to upload audio files from your own computer, you will need to purchase the Space Upgrade.

    The $99 bundle includes:

    Domain Name & Mapping
    Space Upgrade
    No Ads
    Custom Design
    VideoPress

As for your example theme w3 edge, it is not now available on wp.com. You'd have to choose another theme. But who knows, if you wait a bit it may become available adapted to wp.COM. They are adding new themes all the time, but as I said: it is not now available. Choose another one.

  8. We would probably convert the much smaller joomla version of our current http://www.tennismason.com.au to wordpress format which would sell tennis equipment and lessons much the same as now.

This part might be a deal-breaker for using wp.COM. Our platform is not for selling things. The lessons, maybe yes. But the tennis equipment: probably not:

  9. Well 1tess you have helped me Thanks!
I like Tapestry and will probably proceed - however how would I be able to add options for people to follow me on Twitter Facebook linkedin etc?
    waynemason10s
