  1. I just got a job in gun retail. How is gun retail? Anything I should know, tips or anything?

The blog I need help with is jmcartee.wordpress.com.

  2. If Anonymous makes a bulk order, can you cut us a deal? Theoretically, of course.

  3. What a random post... Just glad we don't have 'gun retail' in the UK.

  4. Only in America.

  5. Horrible, ghastly instruments of death to humans AND animals.

  6. Glad I live in a country with gun controls.

  7. Theres the typical narrowminded-ness the wordpress.com forums are known for.

Glad to see its still around.
    /sarcasm.

  8. Well tell me, what ARE guns really good for? There is only one thing they are used for, and that is to KILL.

  9. Congrats on the job!

And, we own a couple guns. Have never killed anything, never plan to (I don't even like to fish!), but, target practice and skeet shooting are fun hobbies.

  10. "Only in America"? Really? XD Cause I feel like guns... are everywhere.

My advice? Shiny sells. I've never done retail in my life, but I'd buy a gun if it was shiny and made me look like a bad ass.

  11. yes...guns are everywhere. But when it comes to buying, it is harder to buy one in the UK than it is in America.

In my lifetime, I've only seen one gun retail store, and it was always closed. Then again, I'm not looking.

  12. Doesn't harder to buy sometimes equate with a more lucrative black market? Not saying that's how it is in the UK or America, but, you know... some places.

  13. I didnt know there was a black market in England hah

  14. Even if there was a black market in England, you'll probably get killed.

  15. I was suggesting some of the sketchier countries. Just didn't want to name names. You know the ones. ;)

  16. Jim, dude, I'm asking about a bulk discount. We're talking orders in the tens of thousands. You wanna be in sales? Work with me!

  17. I just had a lecture with a guest speaker who specialises in gangs and works for the Met Police in London. Apparently, there isn't much of a black market for guns in the UK. If you are caught in possession of a gun it is a mandatory 5 year prison sentence. Most guns used in crimes are passed around and of poor quality. Apparently it is quite difficult to get hold of new weapons.

  18. Well tell me, what ARE guns really good for? There is only one thing they are used for, and that is to KILL.

self defense, hunting, and sport. If it wasnt for guns, you would probably be speaking German and everyone would have blonde hair and blue eyes.

And my name its JMcartee. No I anywhere.

  19. XD War seems like a bad defense of guns. Cause, you know... you could argue Germany couldn't take anything over if they didn't have guns either.

  20. Guns are yucky yucky and scary scary :(

    :)

@jmcartee-Congrats on the job!! My sons really enjoy targeting shooting. They are getting ready to join 4-H shooting sports this fall. Again, congrats on the job:)

  22. Okay, fine. Turn a customer away because of one spare vowel and just SEE how long you last in sales.

  23. Hunting. Ah yes of course. Shooting at animals in enclosures and waking bears up from hibernation to kill them. Now that's what I CALL sport. It takes great skill to do that. And then hang the poor creatures head on the wall to show how brave you are.

  24. Lol Jarrod! If guns weren't invented I wouldn't worry about speaking German! I'd worry about England still owning America.

  25. Hunting. Ah yes of course. Shooting at animals in enclosures and waking bears up from hibernation to kill them. Now that's what I CALL sport. It takes great skill to do that. And then hang the poor creatures head on the wall to show how brave you are.

Okay, TBH you're very ignorant when it comes to guns and hunting. Only idiots hunt animals that are enclosed and only idiots wake a bear up to kill it. That is one of the most stupidest things I've ever read. You go into the woods, wait for an animal to pass by, shoot it, then use it to feed yourself/your family.

Rain, I can hook you up with my 20% employee discount <3

    Good point pete.

And using war as an argument for guns is no different then using war as an argument for swords. Swords hack and slash and cut people, but you dont see people flipping shit over them.

  26. My father has always owned a gun and has used out of necessity. He's a beekeeper and even though he puts electric fences around his yards, bears still get in and do damage. Once a bear has tasted the fat little larvae, there's no stopping them from getting into that yard and ruining it completely, even if the fence is repaired. So he shoots them. Does he like doing it? No, of course not. Is it necessary? Absolutely. Relocating them up into the park rarely works; they have an amazing sense of direction that allows them to come back and wreak havoc upon humans as well as the bees. And the DNR can't always be trusted to come and take every single complaint about a bear in time to save a yard and our livelihood.

It's good that you've got a job in gun retail, jmcartee. Guns don't kill people, after all. People do. I don't really have any advice for you other than make sure you know what you're talking about. Otherwise people will laugh at you behind your back. But I suspect you already know about guns if you took the job.

  27. Okay a 20% discount, now we're talking!

  28. Poor pooh bears :(

  29. Okay, TBH you're very ignorant when it comes to guns and hunting. Only idiots hunt animals that are enclosed and only idiots wake a bear up to kill it. If this is one of the most stupid things you've ever read, you really need to expand your reading IMO. Ok, we'll agree to differ; I do not agree with blood sports of any kind. I don't think that in the 21st century people need to kill animals for food. It's barbaric and unnecessary and IMO belongs in the past when humans had no choice but to kill for food, in the same way as the wearing of fur. That was acceptable when humans didn't have any other choice but to wear animal skins for warmth. To wear fur because of fashion or to kill for food is abhorrent to me.

  30. I had just had a summer module shared with students from the Uni of Maryland. A major difference in opinion was about gun control. It's just he culture. One girl said her dad has an AK-47, but that "it was only for hunting coyotes". Er, right. Quite an easy hunt then... Charming 'sport'.

"It's in the constitution" is a constant refrain. But that was written in a vastly different, lawless time. Just as well the UK didn't have a constitution written way back when, otherwise we'd still be burning witches.

In 2010, the number of homicides by firearms in the US was 8775. In the UK in 2009 it was 41 (can't find 2010 info, but the trend is dropping).

JM Cartee - sword ownership is very low in most countries. Weird comparison to make.
