Link Blog to Website

  1. I am a complete "Newbie" to WordPress (signed up yesterday)and I need to know how to link my Blog (when it is ready!)to my Website.
Can anyone advise me (in simple words - remember I am a Newbie!!)

  2. can you be more specific? isn't your blog your website? or do you have another website you want your blog linked to?

  3. Your blog here is being hosted by wordpress.com. If you have a website elsewhere through a web host or on your own server then you can download a free wordpress blog from http://wordpress.org and install it on your site.
Wordpress.com is a MU (multi-user) blogging platform. We run on a different code base than the version you can download from wordpress.org and you will get different answers to your questions here. You may want to take a few moments and read this description about the different versions of WordPress software posted in a pink "read me first" sticky at the head of this forum.

  4. Agree with Sulz. Please explain what exactly you are trying to do. A link is a simple HTML link.

Are you trying to put it within your website? Is your blog hosted elsewhere? If so, then you do need to need to be over at wordpress.org as you would be running different software than we are here at wp.com

  5. I'm even a newer newbie - have not started a blog as yet. I have a new product web site (name provided on request) which is not yet getting much traffic as it has only been submitted to the search engines about 2 weeks ago. I hope to improve its visibility by blogging about the products and related and linking the blog information to the product site. Is this easy - difficult - or what? I think this is the same question as drmike is asking.

  6. It's relatively easy. If you have a WordPress.com blog you should buy the domain name upgrade and get blog.yourURL.com and then the blog will automatically be part of your website. You can then put the website in a text widget at the very top of the blog. But note that if you provide a link WITHIN every post to your website you could be violating the terms of service. The widget link is permissible, but not a link in every single post.

  7. yogiwan - WordPress.com blogs are non-commercial, no advertsing and driving traffic to another site is not allowed. Please read this:

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/

If you self-hosted a blog you do could what you wish. More info about that at http://wordpress.org

  8. It's permissible, though, to blog about the products and industry without making an offer on the blog itself. But yes, if you're going to cross that line, you should go the self-hosted route, which is easy to incorporate into an existing website.
