Listing Authors of Individual Posts

  1. I am setting up a group blog and I want each post to list the name of the contributor that authored it. Only a few of the standard themes include this option and I would like to be able to add this feature to other, more aesthetically pleasing themes. Is there a simple way to do so?

The blog I need help with is maphilosophy.wordpress.com.

  2. Here's a list of the themes that do or do not display Authors > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/authors/

This is a widget you may wish to use > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/authors-widget/

  3. If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

  4. If the theme does not list the author in the post meta data, there is not way to add it. It would require access to the underlying theme files, and we do not have access to those.

My only suggestion would be for each of the authors to add their own byline at the beginning of the post, something like "Posted by Nathanael". A lot of sites do that.

  5. Oops, shoulda refreshed!

    Morning TT ;-P

  6. Morning TSP ;)
