I was editing my page layout. I changed the parent for 5 pages to the Main Page then deleted the their prior parent page. All disappeared, so I went to the trash and their parent page was there but the other 5 were not - they had disappeared altogether.
These pages contained a lot of internal and external links and will take days to reconstruct and test - is there any way to recover them?

Sorry folks - problem solved.
Well, not exactly, but it was a different problem. I closed WordPress and went for a coffee and when I booted it up again the pages had reappeared. Presumably a hiccup in updating them.
