Lost traffic when migrated from Blogger but own domain

  1. Hi, I hope you can help. I recently migrated my blog from Blogger to WordPress.com and while I'm loving the new site, I have lost a lot of traffic. I used my own domain on blogger and migrated this over to wordpress so can't understand how I would lose traffic. My main readership used to be from the USA, so I knew it was coming from independent sources (my Facebook promotion is mostly Europe). I read somewhere that I might be being penalised for having duplicate content on blogger so I ticked the blogger box to stop it being listed with search engines and still the traffic is low. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to? The website is http://www.indianajo.com Really appreciate any help.

The blog I need help with is indianajo.com.

  2. Yes, you need to set the blogger site as PRIVATE so that search engines don't see duplicated content. Otherwise, they're assuming the WordPress site is just some spammer who came along and stole all your old content.

Unfortunately, it can take search engines weeks or months to catch up. Once that old blog is set Private search engines will start the process of fixing this.

  3. Cheers raincoaster - I knew there was something I hadn't done. Set blogger to private now and will just wait for the search engines to catch up and hope my past readers return.

    Thanks

    Jo

  4. You might want to set all but one post on Blogger private, and on the page put a link to your new address.

  5. I was already using my own domain on Blogger so presume I don't need to do this? Also, when I log into admin on WP the url is: http://indianajoblogs.wordpress.com/wp-admin not indianajo.com/wp-admin - is that correct or have I again got two blogs with duplicate content? Thanks for your help!
