Loving vodpod feature

  1. One of the most appealing new toys i have seen at WordPress.com is Vodpod. You can embed a video easily from almost any site that allows embedding. The vodpod widget was already pretty cool.

More of these of features please!!!

  2. good! it's cool that WordPress has a Vodpod feature. I think I might start using it, but I am not all that familiar with Vodpod.

  3. Yes, It's true. It's a very good feature, and works fine with Sprout http://sproutbuilder.com/ I have make a test on my blog. Sprout is now open to everyone.

One question. Let's say if the video gets deleted at the source where it was first hosted at whichever site I founded it on, will the feed also be deleted on our blogs? Does Vodpod host all these videos and the videos will always stay hosted at Vodpod regardless if it's been deleted at it's original source? Because many times the videos I see get deleted quickly. So I was wondering if Vodpod will always host our videos.

  5. Having not researched I don't imagine they do. They would run into no end of a mess of copyright issues.

  6. I think it's like embedding a YouTube video. If it gets taken down at the source site, it will no longer be functional in your post. The hazards of the Net.

  7. The Vodpod widget should be thought of as a "router" and not a host. If the video goes from the host, it's gone from Vodpod as well. But the widget allows us to put things in our blog that the WordPress.com security guidelines don't allow, because basically it's a detached webspace that only LOOKS like a part of your blog. Does that make sense?

  8. Pornstarbabylon,
When a youtube video (for example)
is taken down , or deleted
you will still have the thumbnail of the video in your widget.
When you click on the thumbnail you will get a message saying
"Sorry this video is no longer available.".

Just the same if a video no longer allows embedding, you will get a blank screen or a simular message

  9. Not that the vodpod tool for embedding to a post is different than the widget. You have a much wider range of sources to embed from.
you can for example embed from godtube if you wish onto a post.

If the video is deleted you will still have an image, but it will be a blank screen, and the words "Sorry, this video is no longer available".

  10. um should say "Note that"...

  11. And now that i visited pornstarbabylons blog, which is very nice... I am guessing that "godtube" example wont be necessary there. :)

That's what I thought. That it didn't host but just held it in limbo. And yes it makes sense the rest of what you said. I understand it. Weird though.

And isn't Youtube a host and videos only get deleted by the user or by Youtube for violations? I always thought of it as a host.

I get people emailing me chasticing me for it. I said why click the link. ;)

  13. Yes, YouTube is a host but Vodpod is not. That's why the solution, if you want your YouTubes to be permanent, is to upload them yourself or buy the space upgrade and host them here.
