Make photos bigger than width of Forever theme

  1. Hi there,

    We started a his and her style blog using the Forever theme and we'd really like to make our photos bigger than they are now. We've done research and apparently you can't extend past what the theme allows. However, we'd like to think there is a way...can someone hope help us?

    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is ourmode.net.

  2. Also, we found this link http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-make-the-photos-in-the-posts-bigger?replies=3

    Though it's for the Manifest theme, we're hoping that something similar can be done with ours?

  3. You cannot park what amounts to a Mac semi-truck and trailer sized image in a Vespa sized parking spot. Exactly how large do you want the images to be?

    Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):
    The main column width is 560 except in a full-width layout where it’s 890.
    The header image is 885 by 252.
    The sidebar width is 263.

  4. Forever - maximum displayed image width

  5. Thanks for your reply!

    From what we understood, we'd have to get rid of the sidebar to make the photos bigger. Right now, when we upload the photos, we select "full size" (560 width), but if we remove the sidebar, they could be as large as 883 as per that second link you posted?

    If that's the case, do you know of any way that we could simply reduce the width of the sidebar, so we wouldn't have to remove it fully in order to make the photos larger?

  6. Since you have the Custom Design upgrade, timethief's replies are wrong: you can change the total width of the theme and/or change the relative widths of main column vs sidebar and/or remove the sidebar completely (and use footer widgets instead).

  7. Hi Justpi,

    Thanks for commenting. How exactly do we do this?

    I'm in the exact same boat katharles, and would love the same information!!

  9. To get rid of the sidebar and make the images really big, you could do something like this:

    #primary,
    #content {
    	margin-right: 0;
    	max-width: 890px;
    }

    #secondary {
    	display: none;
    }

    To keep the sidebar and just shift the gutter to the right a bit, start with this and adjust the numbers as necessary:

    #primary,
    #content {
    	margin-right: 0;
    	max-width: 690px;
    }

    #secondary {
    	width: 200px;
    }

    Once you've found a width you like for the #content section, use that same number to update the "Content Width" setting on in the Publish box on the right side of your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS page.
