Making my WordPress Local Server Online?

  1. I am in need of help. I just started a local database for WordPress on my MAC Machine and now I would like to add it online so that everyone can see it. For example:

MY CURRENT URL IS HTTP://LOCALHOST:8888/WORDPRESS (THIS CAN ONLY BE SEEN ON MY COMPUTER; MEANING IT IS LOCAL)

I WANT IT TO BE THIS HTTP://ROHAN4APPLE.WORDPRESS.COM (SO IT CAN BE SEEN ON EVERY COMPUTER IN THE WORLD)

How exactly do I do that?

  2. You cannot do that from a personal computer because your IP address with your ISP is not set up as a web server, and quite truthfully, it is a really bad idea since that would effectively give hackers access to your computer and everything on it unless you know an awful lot about web server software and security. And typically ISP's will not let you use a personal IP address and account for web servers since it can require a considerable bigger amount of bandwidth than they plan on for a personal internet connection.

That said, this is the forum for bloggers using the wordpress.COM free hosting service, and the software you are running is supported over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . There are considerable differences between the two. See this sticky post at the top of the forum for the differences: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1 .
