Making Posts look like an Excerpt

  1. I'd like to make my posts look like excerpts, such as you might find in The New York Times or The Huffington Post. I just want to show about a paragraph or so, and then the reader can choose to expand it for the full article.

WP Support says that some themes allow for this already, while most excerpts are solely geared for feeds.

Do you know how I may be able to do this? By the way, I'm using DePo Masthead theme (3-column).

    Thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is socialvox.wordpress.com.

  2. Can we get a link to your blog, starting with http? The answer depends on the link.

  3. Sorry, here's the link to the blog: http://socialvox.wordpress.com/

If anyone could help with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you mean the actual beginning of a post, you use the more tag:

Pay GREAT attention to the note on formatting issues.

If you mean an independent summary, you need the special "excerpt" option, but that only works in a handful of themes (the one you're using isn't one of them).

  5. Panaghiotisadam, thanks for the help. I was able to make it work!

I have another question, though: How can I find out about theme-specific special options? For example, how can I find out which themes have the special "excerpt" option?

    Again, thanks.

For most details such as this, I'm afraid there's no other way than testing things yourself. Now, for the excerpt function in particular, it happens that I've done that - see here:
