MAMP Installation of WordPress Problem

  1. I'm trying to install wordpress on my MAMP server. When I edit wp-config.php with these settings:

    // ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
    /** The name of the database for WordPress */
    define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress');

    /** MySQL database username */
    define('DB_USER', 'root');

    /** MySQL database password */
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'root');

    /** MySQL hostname */
    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

    It returns this error message:

    Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

    I've looked at numerous forums that state over and over again that these are the settings to be used but for some reason they won't work for me. I know my server works because I can load other .php pages through it. Please help!

    The blog I need help with is mandybotkin.wordpress.com.

  2. You need to be at WordPress.ORG. We can't help you here.
