Managing comments subscribers receive in their email inbox

Can someone please tell me how I can: 1. prevent future subscribers and 2: stop existing subscribers from receiving, in their email inbox, all the comments I receive and send on each post? I have some subscribers who say that they receive in their email inbox every post comment I receive from and send to subscribers who are commenting on a particular post. I know they must have selected this option when they subscribed to receive emails from me - but I only want them to receive my original posts in their email and not all the comments I receive and send to everyone else.
Thanks for any help I can receive on this.
    Stan.

  2. The comment thing is enough to drive you crazy isn't it!

I don't know if this will help but if you click on the 'Stay in the Conversation' link at the bottom of the forum page it will give you some advice on how to manage the comments.
I hope it helps you in some way.

  3. This support page has been updated and explains how you can opt out of the email comments stuff and gives more information on things.

Thank you for your quick response metan1.
I have read the "Stay in the Conversation" post and many of the comments in the thread, as you suggested. Yikes, I get lost in the details! Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out exactly what to do with the particular problem I am experiencing. I appreciate the facility of being able to respond to comments from specific subscribers and being able to receive comments from specific subscribers. What I don't like, and want to know how to switch it off, is that a subscriber to my posts has the option to be able to receive, in their email, all the comments and responses I receive from and send to every other subscriber I am communicating with re that particular post. I have no problem with the thread of comments appearing in the blog under the post - but all I want to stop is individuals receiving emails of all my comments to everyone.
Please let me know (in baby steps) how I can accomplish this.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
    Stan.

  6. Read the link I gave. Each person will have to turn that off themselves. There is no way for you to turn it off. It used to be opt in, but they've changed that and now it is opt out.

Read the link. Pass the link on to your commenters and visitors and then they can take care of it themselves.

  7. Thanks for that info "thesacredpath" Wow, that's quite hectic hey! The problem is only a few are letting me know that they are not happy receiving every comment made on my blog. So that would require that I send an email with the link of how to "opt out" to everyone of my subscribers. And even then, they can decide to stay "opted in" and receive comments to other subscribers that I prefer they didn't receive - control is out of my hands as the owner/administrator of my blog.
Not too cool - but thanks again for your help.
    Stan.

  8. Put an announcement in a text widget in your sidebar on your site, right at the top and perhaps make it in bold and an attention grabbing color or something like that.

Or you could create a new post and set that post as a sticky post so it would stay right at the top of your posts on the main page.

  9. Maybe you could change the prompt on the comment form so instead of saying 'Leave a Reply' it could also say something that reminds them to untick the follow comments box so their email influx will not get any worse.

Go to; Dashboard, then Settings, then Discussion, to get to the prompt change.

  10. That's a smart idea.

  11. Thank you "thesacredpath" and "metan1" - your comments and suggestions are appreciated. I will take your advice.

  12. You are welcome, and it is too back that AutoMATTic and WordPress are causing the users and visitors here to jump through flaming hoops, but that's the reality.

  13. You're welcome. The comments thing is driving me mad too!

Eventually being able to change our default to 'not follow' was great.
They do listen to our whining, sometimes... ;)
