Mapping Domain from Network Solutions Might Effect Mail Server?

    I want to map a domain currently registered with Network Solutions, seretail.com, onto my WordPress blog, seretail.wordpress.com. Though, WordPress' mapping guide states mapping might cause your mail server to temporarily go down for around 24 hours while the transfer takes place due to the server and IP change.

    I want to make sure I map the domain to WordPress correctly and not screw up my Network Solutions webmail. I've already paid for the domain so I don't want to register a subdomain through WordPress.

    Maybe there's an easier way to do map the domain without the possibility of effecting my Network Solutions account...

    Hi. Network Solutions should provide you with MX records to enter on your WordPress.com Custom DNS settings:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

    thanks, for the reply.

    Called NS and got the MX records and did a custom DNS at wordpress. The domain is showing up as seretail after mapping but now I can't login to my webmail account there... I hope this is a temporary disruption.

    I've never done this before so with each step I'm biting my nails and second guessing myself afraid I'll mess up something and won't be able to access my email there.

    Does it take some time to update the MX records? I'm hoping for minimal disruption to my email account at Network Solutions.

    It can take a little bit of time for the changes to propagate.

    How long has it been, and is it still broken?

    Hi ehanson2 - Were you able to get mail? I looked at what NS sent me and I don't know what it means as the example from WordPress is for google.
