mapping to a domain I own that another blog previously owned and is mapped to.

  1. Good morning. My blog is dogsandbikes.wordpress.com. I have coveted owning dogsandbikes.com and this morning, after months of checking, I was able to purchase it. However, a different wordpress blog is still mapped to it. Is there any way to "unmap" the previous blog so that I can map mine to dogsandbikes.com?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is dogsandbikes.wordpress.com.

  2. I take it you purchased a domain that is still mapped to a blog which you don't own. Is this correct?

  3. Thanks for replying. Yes, that's correct.

  4. Time for the staff to help - I have flagged this for the staff to help you

  5. Thanks - I appreciate everyone's assistance!

  6. @megatroid: I've removed the expired domain mapping, please try mapping your domain again in a few moments.

  7. Jenia - Thanks for your help. I was able to map to dogsandbikes.com. Now, I'm just waiting for the DNS to update. My several readers will be thrilled!

  8. dogsandbikes.com works fine from where I am on the internet.

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less).

You can continue to update your site while your custom domain propagates, by going directly to your Dashboard, here:
    http://dogsandbikes.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies:
