Meaning of Syndicated Views in Layman's Terms

  1. I apologize for asking this question, but I don't seem to be understanding the literal meaning of "syndicated views." About a week ago, my syndicated views quadrupled, and my on-site views dropped by the same percentage.

Please explain the term syndicated view, and if the stats have been re-configured in some way to shift the percentages in such a drastic manner?

    My apologies again.

The blog I need help with is teresasilverthorn.wordpress.com.

  2. Syndicated views are views from RSS readers. In other words those people have subscribed to your RSS feed and view the RSS feed in their browser which means that they are not coming directly to your blog to read your posts.

You have your feed shown to display only summaries, which will typically bring your blog views, but that depends on whether the summary piques their interest. People see the summary on the RSS feed and then click on the title or the "read more" link to go to your blog and read the entire post.

  3. Since I'm a little lost as to why your views have gone down and syndicated views have gone up, I would suggest contacting staff directly at http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ to see if they have any clues.

  4. Someone advised me to go to "summaries" instead of full text, so I just did that this morning (after I posted this question)

I think most of my regular readers have gone to RSS, rather than coming straight to my site. That's probably why the stats have gone down, I think.

Thank you so much for your response, and pardon my apparent ignorance ;)

  5. I always keep mine set to summaries since that makes it more difficult for sploggers and scrapers to get my stuff. One of their favorite sources is RSS feeds.

See what happens over the next week.

And you aren't ignorant - apparent or otherwise - we are all learning all the time.
